Why I don’t want you to look at the camera: A perspective from an Oregon Family Photographer

Okay, I get it, you want the posed Christmas Card photo. I will get it for you, I promise! But is your life made up of moments of smiling and looking forward? What is your goal in a photo? If it is to capture posed images, that is okay. Let me tell you what my hope is for you, if you are my client.

I hope to capture real moments. I hope to remind you of the little, seemingly mundane interactions that you have, which will change as life changes. For me, my five year old has a “secret kiss” that he gives me. Even as your family grows, I bet that there are small ways that you interact which you’ll want to remember.

I want to capture your natural environment, is it the way that your kids stomp through Eugene’s many muddy puddles? Is it standing in awe at Oregon’s beautiful waterfalls or at the beaches in Florence, or Yachats? Do you adventure to places like Sweet Creek Falls and splash in the water and climb on the rocks? Do you romp through the long grasses and snuggle?

What memories can we create, which will bring you back, without a doubt, to this chapter?

My hope for you, is that we collaborate to turn core memories into a work of art that you can preserve in your home for generations. There is nothing wrong with a photo smiling at the camera, but the good stuff, is in the moments that you can look back on and feel something. That is my hope for you.
